Description
Four children from At Attin, landing in a Borgo Prime jail around 9 ABY, took Jod, who was held there too, for a Jedi, and he did not correct them: he engineered their breakout and promised, for a price, to get them home to a planet whose boundless riches were the stuff of legend. Jod himself had been put behind bars by Brutus, the lieutenant who overthrew him as captain of the pirate crew he led under the name Silvo. Over his adult years he had cycled through a great many names and double-crossed both Pokkit, a bounty hunter, and Kh'ymm, an astronomer.
Jod obtained At Attin's coordinates in the Lanupa lair of the pirate Rennod, also taking the captaincy from Fern there; afterwards he shot Brutus and was back in charge of the pirates. On At Attin he posed as a Republic envoy and a Jedi, wrecked the droid that ruled the planet and opened the way to the Mint for the pirates. The scheme collapsed: the children and their parents called for help and brought down the Barrier, and New Republic fighters scattered the pirates. Beaten, Jod dropped his weapon.
Jod displayed his Force sensitivity back in the Borgo Prime brig, where he seemed to pull the cell keys over to himself with it, and in Rennod's treasure vault he picked up the lightsaber that turned up there. At the decisive moment, in the Supervisor's tower, Jod told Wim about his teacher: a Jedi woman taught him for a short while when he was a boy, and then her pursuers killed her before his eyes.
