Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

Description

Jon Watts and Christopher Ford created this eight-episode show, which ran on Disney+ between December 2, 2024, and January 14, 2025. Four children, Wim, Fern, KB and Neel, are at the heart of it, and Jude Law appears as the pirate Jod Na Nawood. The episodes were helmed by Watts himself, David Lowery, Lee Isaac Chung, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jake Schreier, and Daniel Kwan together with Daniel Scheinert, while Mick Giacchino wrote the music.

The events take place around 9 ABY, the same years covered by The Mandalorian and Ahsoka. The kids grow up on At Attin, a peaceful world that the Barrier cuts off from the wider galaxy. In the woods they stumble on a starship buried in the ground and accidentally fly it out past the Barrier; accompanied by the droid SM-33 and the enigmatic Jod, they then try to get back home, slipping past pirates and through perilous worlds.

Adventure movies of the 1980s shaped the show, chiefly The Goonies, along with E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and the Indiana Jones pictures, and it nods to Ewoks: The Battle for Endor as well as The Star Wars Holiday Special. The project was first announced in May 2022. Its debut consisted of two episodes, after which new ones arrived every week.
