Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu

Description

Jon Favreau directed this feature-length continuation of The Mandalorian, which opened in cinemas on May 22, 2026. Favreau shares the screenplay credit with Dave Filoni and Noah Kloor, and Ludwig Göransson composed the score. Pedro Pascal is back as Din Djarin, with Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White joining the cast in new roles. It is the first Star Wars picture made for the big screen since 2019, and it launches a new line of films for the franchise.

The story unfolds around 14 ABY, in the gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. The Empire is gone, yet its former warlords are still at large, spread out over the galaxy, and the New Republic has Din Djarin hunting them down in the Outer Rim together with his apprentice Grogu. Colonel Ward then hands the Mandalorian an odd assignment: bring Rotta, the son of Jabba, back to his uncle and aunt, the Hutt Twins, in return for intelligence on Imperial fugitives.

No earlier live-action Star Wars release in cinemas had done without the familiar "long time ago" title card, and none had opened with credits. The production shot in California, and several characters known from the TV series reappear, among them Garazeb Orrelios, Carson Teva and Trapper Wolf. Favreau has said the plot had to be built anew because the scripts developed for the show's fourth season would not work as a movie. The running time is 132 minutes.
