R2-D2

When Padmé Amidala's royal ship ran the Naboo blockade, R2-D2 patched its damaged shields while under fire so it could reach hyperspace. Travelling on with the queen and the Jedi, he reached Tatooine and met C-3PO there. In the fight for Naboo he shared a starfighter with young Anakin Skywalker, who went on to destroy the droid control ship, and afterwards he stayed with Amidala through her time as a senator.

On Geonosis the astromech rescued Padmé from the factory assembly line, and not long after, he and C-3PO were the sole witnesses when she secretly married Anakin. In the Clone Wars he flew alongside Skywalker and was with him on the flagship Invisible Hand when the chancellor was rescued. Later, Leia Organa trusted him with the battle station plans and a recording meant for Obi-Wan Kenobi. He brought both to Tatooine, had a part in getting the princess off the station, and rode in Luke's fighter during the assault at Yavin.

Together with Luke, R2-D2 visited Dagobah, smuggled Luke's lightsaber into Jabba's palace and took part in the landing on Endor's forest moon. After that victory he helped Skywalker track down lost Jedi knowledge. Once Luke disappeared, the droid switched himself to low power and remained so for years on the Resistance base. When he finally stirred, he uncovered most of the map to Luke's refuge; BB-8 supplied the missing piece, and R2-D2 set off with Rey and Chewbacca to Ahch-To.
