K-2SO

K-2SO came to the rebels by way of the Ghorman massacre. At that time he was one of the Empire's KX security machines turned loose on the Palmo plaza, and he was chasing Cassian Andor when Samm of the Ghorman Front drove a transport into him and broke him to pieces. Andor hauled the remains to the Yavin 4 base, and a technician there gave the droid new programming. His Imperial directives and his brutality were gone, yet he never managed to keep his blunt comments to himself.

From then on Kay, the short form of his name, kept working side by side with Andor. With Andor and Ruescott Melshi he made a rescue flight to Coruscant for Luthen Rael and Kleya Marki, and near the safehouse he eliminated a squad of Imperial agents. Next he and Andor collected information about the superweapon at the Ring of Kafrene. He also helped get Jyn Erso out of an Imperial work camp and travelled with her to Jedha, where, though told to wait by the ship, he waded into a street battle.

Jedha's Holy City was destroyed by the battle station, but moments before the blast K-2SO picked up his friends in a U-wing. He was later among the Rogue One team, which set off for Scarif without the leadership's consent. In the vault complex the droid brought Erso and Andor to the archive, shut them inside away from the stormtroopers, pointed them to the file holding the plans and smashed the door panel before enemy fire brought him down.
