Jango Fett

Profile

A Mandalorian who hunted bounties and, during the Republic's closing years, was thought to have no equal in that trade anywhere. His genes were the basis of the clone army grown on Kamino, and on top of his payment he took one clone left unmodified, bringing him up as his son, Boba. He was the man behind the attempts on Padmé Amidala's life and fell on Geonosis fighting Mace Windu.

Description

The clone army raised on Kamino was grown from Jango Fett's genetic material; a man who called himself Tyranus had recruited the Mandalorian for the job. On top of his fee Fett insisted on receiving one clone with no modifications, a boy named Boba whom he brought up as his son. Jango had a reputation as the galaxy's foremost bounty hunter during the Republic's last years. His Mandalorian armour came with a jetpack, wrist-mounted blades that slid out, a cable and two blasters, and he travelled aboard his ship Slave I.

Once Senator Padmé Amidala became the target of a conspiracy, Fett assigned the hit to the bounty hunter Zam Wesell. Her first try failed, so he supplied her with venomous creatures for a second one. The Jedi still caught up with her, but before she could reveal who had hired her, Fett shot her with a dart from far away. That dart pointed Obi-Wan Kenobi toward Kamino, where he questioned Jango and later tried to hold him on a landing platform; Fett got away, taking Boba with him to Geonosis.

On Geonosis Jango sided with the Separatists of Count Dooku and seized Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala inside the droid factory. When the Jedi reached the arena he stood guard over Dooku and killed one of them, but his fight with Mace Windu ended in his beheading. Boba grieved over his father's helmet, and the troops grown from Jango's genes saw their first combat in that same battle, which marked the start of the Clone Wars.
