Jabba the Hutt

Jabba Desilijic Tiure, better known as Jabba the Hutt, ran his business from a fortified palace in Tatooine's Northern Dune Sea. Mercenaries, smugglers and petitioners gathered there, and a rancor was kept in a pit beneath the throne room. Jabba sat on the Hutt Grand Council and held sway both in the underworld and in politics. Thirty-two years before the Battle of Yavin he opened the Boonta Eve podrace in Mos Espa, though the race itself did not keep him from dozing off.

During the Clone Wars Count Dooku tried to win the Hutt over to the Separatists by kidnapping his son Rotta and framing the Jedi, but Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano brought the infant back, and the Republic gained Jabba's favour for a time. Later he hired Cad Bane to break his uncle Ziro out of a Republic prison. When Maul, his brother and Pre Vizsla stormed his palace, Jabba was forced to bring the Hutt families into the Shadow Collective.

Bounty hunter Boba Fett delivered Han Solo, who owed the Hutt money, frozen in carbonite, and Jabba hung the captive in his throne room as a decoration. Solo's friends entered the palace one by one: Leia Organa, disguised as the bounty hunter Boushh, thawed him but was captured, and Jabba dropped Luke Skywalker to the rancor. He sentenced the prisoners to the sarlacc, but in the fight on his sail barge Leia strangled him with the chain she was bound by.
