Jar Jar Binks

Jar Jar Binks had been exiled from his underwater home city for his constant clumsiness and was roaming the swamps of Naboo when the Trade Federation landed its droid army on the planet. Qui-Gon Jinn kept him from being run over by an invasion transport, and the Gungan, feeling indebted, guided the Jedi through his city and the planet's depths to the capital Theed, then fled Naboo with them and Queen Amidala.

On Tatooine he accompanied the queen and Qui-Gon in Mos Espa, where Anakin Skywalker stood up for him, and on Coruscant he told Amidala that the Gungans had an army. Back on Naboo, Jar Jar led the queen to his people's sacred refuge, where an alliance was made, and Boss Nass made him a general. On the Great Grass Plains his forces were overwhelmed, but the droid army shut down once the control ship was destroyed.

Later Jar Jar became junior representative of the Naboo delegation in the Senate and, while Padmé Amidala was away, proposed giving Chancellor Palpatine the emergency powers needed to create the Republic's army. During the Clone Wars he and Bail Organa sought help on Toydaria for besieged Ryloth, he was in the Senate when the Empire was proclaimed, and he walked among the mourners at Amidala's funeral.
