Description

Chirrut Îmwe was a blind warrior monk who preached in the streets of the Holy City on Jedha. He believed the Force connects all living things, though he had no Force abilities of his own; his blindness did not stop him from being a formidable fighter thanks to long physical and mental discipline. He fought with a wooden staff and a handmade lightbow, always accompanied by his friend and protector Baze Malbus.

When Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor arrived on Jedha, Chirrut sensed the kyber crystal she wore around her neck, and he and Baze later rescued the pair from a stormtrooper squad. All four were seized by Saw Gerrera's Partisans, and Chirrut ended up in a cell next to the defector Bodhi Rook. When the battle station's test shot destroyed the city, the friends brought the pilot to the surface and escaped aboard Andor's ship.

Chirrut and Baze joined the team that went to Scarif for the station's plans without the Alliance command's approval. In the fighting near the shore he covered his comrades, and when someone had to throw the master switch Bodhi needed to reach the fleet, Chirrut walked to the console through blaster fire, repeating his mantra, and threw it. Moments later he was mortally wounded by an explosion and died in Baze's arms.
