C-3PO

Anakin Skywalker, a slave boy in Mos Espa, built C-3PO to help his mother Shmi; at first the droid had no outer plating and his workings were exposed. When the Naboo queen's companions came to the Skywalker home, C-3PO met R2-D2. Leaving with the Jedi, Anakin left the droid on Tatooine, where he went on serving Shmi and the Lars family until his former master returned ten years later in search of his mother.

With Anakin and Padmé Amidala the droid reached Geonosis, where in the factory his head was fixed onto a battle droid body until R2-D2 set things right; both droids then attended the secret wedding. After the Empire was proclaimed, C-3PO passed to Bail Organa and his memory was wiped. Years later he escaped the captured Tantive IV with R2-D2, came to Luke Skywalker and took part in freeing Leia Organa from the battle station.

During the evacuation of Echo Base C-3PO left aboard the Millennium Falcon; in Cloud City he was shot apart by stormtroopers and partly reassembled by Chewbacca, at Jabba's court he served as translator, and on Endor the Ewoks took him for a god. In the Resistance years he served Leia Organa, reached Crait with the survivors, and on Kijimi agreed to a memory wipe to translate a Sith inscription; R2-D2 later restored it from a backup.
